Markle works to realize the full potential of information and information technology to address critical public needs, particularly in the areas of health and national security. We collaborate with innovators and thought leaders from the public and private sectors whose expertise lies in the areas of information technology, privacy, civil liberties, health, and national security.

Advancing Health in a Connected World

Advancing Health There is enormous potential to improve our health care system through modern information tools. To do that, we must set clear goals, define the use of information technology as a way to improve health, and adopt an approach to technology and standards that fosters market innovation.

For the past several years, our policy recommendations on health information technology are the result of the collaborative efforts of Markle Connecting for Health. This initiative is comprised of representatives from more than one hundred public and private organizations across the spectrum of health care and information technology specialists.

The primary objective of Markle Connecting for Health is to catalyze the widespread changes that are needed to realize the full benefits of health information technology, while protecting patient privacy and the security of personal health information. Markle Connecting for Health tackles the key challenges of creating a networked health information environment that enables secure and private information sharing when and where it is needed to improve health and health care.

Advancing National Security in a Connected World

Advancing National Security Markle's national security initiatives focus on keeping America safe by transforming how government does business. Everyone—from first-responders on the street to our leadership in Washington—must be better informed and able to work collaboratively to ensure our safety while protecting our civil liberties.

Since 2002, the primary vehicle for Markle’s work in national security has been the Markle Task Force on National Security in the Information Age. The work of the Markle Task Force focuses on making policy recommendations for developing a trusted information sharing framework through the best use of technology and management know-how available.
